Darien was introduced in the first episode when Serena throws a crumpled test paper in a frusterated rage and it lands on his head. After commenting on the sadily poor marks he walks away leaving a less than impressed Serena behind. These two clash constantly through the series until the end when they seem to have a festering friendship.

At the same time a mysterious man appears throughout the city at night known only by those who seek him out as "Tuxedo Mask". When the Sailor Scouts start fight the Dark Kingdom for the Rainbow crystals The Tudedoed hero reveals why he does what he does. Every night in his dreams a Beautiful woman in white askes him for help. She keeps telling him to look for the Silver Crystal which had been shattered into the seven rainbow crystals long ago. With this nagging dream and his need to unlock the mysteries of his past he sets out to find and contain these Rainbow crystals, even if that means being in compition with the Scouts themselves...

In the battle with Zoicite the Dark Kingdom finds out who the man behind the mask is when his shoulder becomes wounded in a fight. The next day Zoicite is eager for a rematch, the prise being the Seven rainbow crystals. Darien accepts (Despite his need to be in bed recovering for that nasty injury) and as he heads out to the Toyoko Tower to face Zoicite he bumps into Serena, who notices the blood on her hand after she gives him a good smack on the back, and follows him to make sure he's okay. Zoicite goes back on his word (Surprise, surprise) and now has Serena and Darien trapped in an elevator. While in the elevator Darien opens up to Serena and tells her about how his parents died in a car accedent and how he lost his memory in the after math of it. He also tells her about the faceless woman in white in his dreams that he feels is apart of his past, and now he would stop at nothing to find out more about it.

At this time Zoicites gets a little bored and sends a nasty wall of flame in incerate the duo down the elevator shaft. Though caution to the wind in typical Serena fashion she transforms infront of Darien to stop the fiery death before they become a pile of ashes in the elevator. Serena hopes to chase Zoicite away so she and Darien could get out in one piece. Darien has other plans however.

Transforming into Tuxedo Mask before Serena and Zoicite and attampts to take the stole Rainbow crystals back. Zoicite has another idea however and in sneeky villian fashion he stabbed Darien in the back with an ice shard. Horrified Sailor Moon starts to cry, the tear summons the Silver Crystal and finally the lost Princess Serenity is found. As the white lady in Dariens dream promised, Darien remembers his past, Prince Darien of the Earth Kingdom and together Darien and Serena discover their forgotten past on the Moon Kingdom.
