Champions Online

The second "large" release this year - after Aion - will be Champions Online. I am putting that into quotation marks because the game is pretty much doomed before it comes out. Having a pre-release following equal to the size of 'Fury' (never heard of it? go figure what that means) it's doubtful that it will ever gather the necessary momentum required for an MMORPG. It might start out small and subsequently gain more subscribers like other niche titles did. Dofus and Tibia come to mind. However, given the big names behind the game, it's more likely that it'll be a quick blip before the plug gets pulled. If you want to give it a shot anyway, you can head over to Champions Online Guides and get a few more ideas what character creation is about in this game.

Aion

The next big thing in Korean MMOs: Aion . A new game developed by NCSoft, which is already well known for its MMORPG Lineage 2. With Aion, the company wants to tackle Blizzard's success in the US and the EU.

The game allows for PvP and PvE fights, though things work a little different than with other games (more details are said to be revealed soon, once the NDA falls). There is a total of 8 different Aion classes , divided into categories of scouts, warriors, mages and priests. A big different to other MMOs is that characters start with the inherent ability to fly, though apparently only over short distances. A big similarity to other games is the standard questing system.

Given the strong graphical similarities and overlapping in players, we'll probably cover Aion more extensively at cabaldb.com as well in the future. In the mean time we can recommend Killer Guides' Aion Guide for those of you who want a headstart in the game.

Final Fantasy XIV

FFXIV is just around the corner - and with everyone gearing up for one of the biggest MMORPGs this year, now is a good time to get a head start on all other FF14 players. Head over to FF14 Guides - they just published a good starter guide that will help you to hit the ground running once the FFXIV servers go up. On the page you'll also find some first impressions of the game in form of an E3 review video that gives players a brief glimpse about the actual game. Time to gear up and get ready for the next title in the Final Fantasy series (and don't listen to the FFXI traditionalists - FF14 will blow them out of the water!).
